UKIP Leadership Ballot to be Counted by UKIP Members!
Most serious political parties use the good offices of the Electoral Reform Society to conduct their ballot. UKIP, however, must be in a pretty bad state financially, as they have put an advert on their website for Party Members "of good standing" (that should narrow it down a bit! That was a JOKE for those UKIP readers of a more sensitive nature) to help count the ballot papers for their leadership election, a subject I have so far managed to avoid commenting on. You can read the advert HERE. Let's hope that the result isn't close. In the words of the song, "There may be trouble ahead..."

I remember the good old days - when Kilroy was "two votes short of a leadership challenge". What is he doing these days, anybody?
I am not a UKIP member but I can count to 6. I even have NuLab A-level maths. Can I apply?
But surely there will be too many votes even for both of the members "of good standing" to count?

Nah. Should be all right, it's not as if there are going to be hanging chads, 'lost' ballot boxes, unauthorised visitors weighed down by pockets stuffed with extra votes in case the electorate come up with the wrong answer.
That only works when you can't fit all the voters into one minibus (metaphorically speaking).
Mind you, it will be most enlightening to find out just what their membership is - is it going up significantly or do most of the support they get in council/general/EU elections result from on-the-spot voter disgust with the mainstream parties?
Have any members of UKIP been caught out for.... perjury,fraud,spanking rent boys, taking backhanders,shagging Edwina Currie or been found bound, gagged and dead after taking part in a bizarre w****** session Iain?

es UKIP are in an awful state. They blew 100 grand on getting a few hundred more votes at B&C with Nigel garage.
Their PR officer virtually accuses the main rival to Nigel garage of having links to BNP!
Membership is officially down to 17k. It is really barely 10k but many of its members signed on 5 yr deals which they cannot cancel.
Kilroy's offered to come back and do the count. Apparently.
And guess who will select which party members are invited to do the count. That's right - the same ones who rigged all previous UKIP elections! The tiny UKIP cabal that controls the party tries as usual to appear lillywhite, while practising the black arts.

Nah, I think we read this wrong, they are inviting UKIP folk to come and count using their members. You count one vote at a time rather than using your fingers.
PS in reply to peter hitchens, ukip only have a few meps and one has been suspended because of finance problems and another MEP had to appologise over mis using research money. They have a higher rate of Member problems than any other party.
To say nothing about their Leader benefiting from the EU's relaxation of immigration rules so he hired lots of Polish workers for his house.
A different anonymous referred to UKIP's leader hiring Polish workers to rebuild his house. Missing is the reference to the same UKIP leader voting against allowing Poles to enter this country, whilst then employing them when they were allwed to do so.
But how will UKIP members be able to count the votes when their eyes are swivelling in all directions?

And remember that UKIP's so-called "leader" voted against allowing Polish workers to enter the UK - before hiring some of them to rebuild his house. What a bunch of hypocrical shysters they are.

I think the last four or five anonymouses were the same anonymouse really.
On a completely different subject: what exactly is the problem with using Polish workmen? polite, well mannered, hard working, trustworthy and competent, for reasonable charges. They get very good results IMHO.
But then, I'm just a lonely single lady, know what I mean? What do I know?
anonymous at 7.27 pm - you are quite right: several of those posts come from my keyboard. I sent off the first one, and got a "page not found" response: the last time this happened no post appeared at all. So I re-posted.
And you are absolutely right -there is no problem at all with Polish workmen, except in the eyes of the UKIP oddballs who sometimes infest this place.
But I'm only a lonely single man, and don't possess the high-powered intellect of yer average UKIP/BNP member (they're two sides of the same coin).

Ooohh Peter, you are awful. But...
Now, I haven't been following this all that closely (honest!), but I seem to remember there are 4 candidates for the UKIP leadership. The party Constitution states that the leader will be elected by a "simple majority" and there doesn't seem to be any provision for a second ballot. This could mean that the winner will be the first choice of only quite a small minority of party members. (Or is Garage expected to win by a country mile?)
Iain, entirely off topic: you've got a bit fatter on your lefthand side! Was this intentional? I like to have my "favorites" shown (of which, naturally, you are one), but this inevitably means that your measured and precise sentences, written with such gravitas and decorum, are somewhat truncated on the right hand by the mysteries of technology.
I dread to think of the pearls of wisdom of which I may be entirely incognisant. And no, I am not the Grafas Fruning Graplecard. I am a humble scribe, eager for wisdom.

Anonymous, yes, I know. And I'm not quite sure why!
Jimmuh Cahduh is extremely available to supervise elections. He has never supervised an election he couldn't endorse. I believe he works free, just for the glory.
Iain, it's because at least one of your side images is now bigger (wider) than the lefthand column in which it sits. The FM one is now 295 pixels wide, whereas the column width is, I think, defined as 200 pixels wide. That has somehow resized the mouse and Flickr images.

I always try to have noble intentions, so won't name the individual I'm referring to - I imagine he'll be concerned that this ballot isn't resolved by the issue of hanging chads.
To attack UKIP for being racist is arguable though some evidence would be nice. To attack them for using Polish plumbers is equally arguable. For somebody to attack them for both in the same post seems bizarre.
I would entirely agree, however, with the poster who said that a first past the post system for electing their leaders was not very democratic. Now which party is most supportive of such a system for the rest of us?
I am going to vote for UKIP or the BNP, depending which is running in my constituency. I am not going to waste my vote by abstaining.
(I have a feeling that by the time of the next election, the BNP will not only have opened its membership to black Britons, but they'll be running a couple or more black candidates. If so, a lot of people will be able to vote for them with a clear conscience.)
