Corpsing on WebCameron

Prepare yourselves. Jonathan Sheppard of Tory Radio and I did a piece for Webcameron last night and here's the result (Tim Montgomerie was supposed to join us but was no doubt getting hammered in some sleazy Bournemouth bar....JOKE). It's a 10 minute chat about blogs, podcasts and, er mobile phones. Why mobile phones? Well, you'll have to watch the video. I think in the trade it's called 'corpsing'... They seem to have edited out the expletives though...

Last night I went to the Candidates reception and the Chairman's bash. Ran into Huw Edwards who had been queuing for 4 hours for a pass. He was not a happy bunny. It's a really good idea to piss off the BBC's main news presenter, isn't it? There was also a story doing the rounds that Andrew Lansley had been forced to spend the night sleeping in his car as his hotel was in the secure zone - unfortunately he is denying it.

Francis Maude has been visiting the queuing hordes to sympathise and ply them with chocolate. It really is not his fault but of course he is taking the flak.

In 45 minutes Francis is coming to officially launch the bloggers stand. The media seem very interested in it so I think we're going to be deluged.

Tune in to the Daily Politics at noon News 24 at 7.30 and Anita Anand at 11.30pm on 5Live as they will all be covering it.

Is this the sort of quality we can expect from 18 Doughty Street TV?

Are there sleezy bars in Bournemouth?

Indeed. I always maintained that the night the press turned against New Labour was 31 Dec 1999 - when several national newspaper editors were forced to queue for four hours to get into the Millennium Dome!

o/t whilst I'm not a Cameron fan and feel intensely dissappointed/angry by his lack of beliefs/conservatism,I do think there's a chance he may perk up.

Maude on the other hand is just a waste of space, and if he believes in the a-list so much why doesn't he give one of them his seat.I remember trying to flog some tickets for an evening with the bloke a year or two back.ended up getting begging notes from the ACD to try and get some members there.noone went.says it all really.

a fine example of the SADIM touch

When will you learn to deal with the press? Another almighty cock up this morning when Osbourne was quoted by the Blair Broadcasting Corporation that the Tories will /may have to put taxes up.!!!

They twist your words !! For goodness sake learn to deal with the press and stop giving them an opening!!

MAUDE

Francis Maude is just about bearable, but he is horribly dated in his manners and speech.

He's listed his interests in the company that funded the porn industry, but really in his position, as the 'I know it all and am going to tell you lot how to do it', it's not very bright. If he thinks he's a politician, he should have cleaned up his record totally before demanding top billing in David Cameron's team. As soon as he was appointed to Cameron's right hand, he should have resigned the porn industry connections, which he must have been aware of.

BLOGS

Iain you're such a low key unassuming fellow, and a highly successful and interesting communicator. Can you hear a 'but' coming? I just think that blogging needs to be made to sound more exciting if possible. Don't ask me how, but maybe mention the way you broke news stories - and quote journalists who have slagged off blogs and clearly feel undermined by us. Build a picture of media competing, in which we are stealing territory.

OK that's not your style. maybe you want to walk before you run etc. but i think a bigger claim would be in order.

Iain - did you and Mr Sheppard co-ordinate your shirts before hand or was it luck ?

Might that not have something to do with the Mail painting Mr maude as some sort of modern day white slaver?

Guido has the link, but it seems like the investment firm for which Francis is non-exec Chairman invested in a porn production and distribution company.

I don't think he personally chose the investment, but since when has the media ever let the truth spoil a good story?

Sorry, that should read "Mirror" not "Mail".

Still, all the red tops look the same don't they?

Eh up Iain, i've just seen your frame in front of an 'Iain Dale' exhibition pop up banner on the telly. Jenny, that fit bird on the BBC Daily Politics show was interviewing a couple of tory up and comings in the hospitality area..... but in the background, just behind a blue rinser, I saw this big bloke in a white shirt standing in front of the banner...... Your profile is unmistakable Sir!

Oh bugger - just read the end of your post - didn't realise the Beeb were covering the launch - presumably I missed it as I only turned the telly on at gone half 12......

I rather enjoyed it.

Meanwhile BBC write-up on Cameron seems to have it spot on here.

Keep on flying the flag, Iain. And I didn't know Michael White had a sense of humour until today. I knew he had a small one. But not a sense of humour. Although I know you definitely have a sense of humour. That tie knocked me bandy.

Francis Maude visiting the queues? Has he been handing out free porn to cheer up the Blue Rinse Brigade?

TAPESTRY `Iain you're such a low key unassuming fellow, and a highly successful and interesting communicator. Can you hear a 'but' coming? I just think that blogging needs to be made to sound more exciting if possible. Don't ask me how`

Tapestry why must you always be so vindictive. Does everything have to be reduced to a pointless gladiatorial insult swapping festival for you? When you introduce this sort of sarcastic personal invective I wonder if you really want to know the answer or you just enjoy attacking this poor defenceless creature to hear the squeals . There are far to many people here whose postings are self regarding, aggressive and barbed. You TAPESTRY are the most adversarial unforgiving and remorseless purveyors of spiteful bile in the blogasphere . Don’t listen to him Iain , he is consumed with hate and like Milton’s Satan might well say `I am hell myself ` .

TAPESTRY !!PSHAW!

The Corpsing of the Conservaive Party. And Francis Maude in the same sentence - the only person whose visage makes Urqhard seem 'chummy'.

What a fun undertaking!

The Times reports hissing and booing of the Party Chairmen over A lists and police quizzing Tory donors over cash for peerages.
Are you carrying these stories, Iain or is this now another good news only blog?

Better be wary of Huw, he does write all his own scripts you know. As if.

Iain, Why did Cameron SNUB the Candidates reception.

I don't mind some light banter but really as I said, in an earlier comment on another entry,
I knew that you would get a banal interview on Anita's programme and she did nothing to make the political side of what you and others are doing interesting.

I sent a text in but guess what...it wasn't read out...very few were after she asked for people to do so.

She was patronising pulling you up every few minutes about the jargon which if we assume she has listeners...best part of those listening are
a)interested in politics

b)know what a blog is by now

c)When she gets what she thinks is a good idea she won't let it drop, all she seemed obssesed with was the jargon which I dare say most listening already know.

But its all publicity...

The way to show the importance of blogging is just to keep scooping the MSM. Blogging about blogging is beyond self-absorbed and dull (although my own posts about blogging always seem to be popular; maybe it's just that nobody reads the rest of my stuff).

I must confess to a certain degree of amusement at the idea of an official "Blogger's Corral". One can see parallels to a containment strategy...

"It really is not his fault"

So whose fault was it?

Very funny, whoever caused it.

Best way to hold a successful conference is to exclude half the delegates. Great work.

Wonder If.....The slow adoption of the internet served the Labour Parties purpose? We're 3/4 years behind the USA in terms of blogging and using the internet for political discussion. Why?Because Broadband has only been available to most in the last year or so.The governments lack of incentive to the telecoms providers to get our exchanges modernized was criminal in purely business terms.Maybe it also helped maintain their stranglehold on the means of information dissemination??NOW we have mutterings from Brussells about internet control.I feel Mandelsons sticky fingers....
